1. You'll be the first to know
Whether you're following the trending hashtags #Frankenstorm or #Sandy to follow the storm, or your favorite sports team to keep up with the score, you're going to be the first to know about big stuff--right when it happens. In fact, Twitter has been first to break news stories like Whitney Houston's death and even the raid of Osama Bin Laden. If you're on the East Coast this week, follow handles like the National Hurricane Center (@NHC_Atlantic), or CNN Breaking News (@cnnbrk) to follow the storm.

2. You can predict the future You don't need a Wall Street analyst if you've got Twitter. According to 
a new study in which tweets were categorized by emotion, there was a correlation between the tone of a tweet and events such as Election Day 2008. Results showed public anxiety leading up to Election Day, but an increased calm on the actual day. You can't upload your resume to Twitter, but a recent study found that 34 percent of job hunters rely on the little bird to help them find work. There are search engines such as Monster.com that provide careers advice through Twitter (@MonsterCareers) and certain companies who also have their own career handles. For example, Verizon tweets job openings and career fair information at @VerizonCareers. And if you can't find a handle for your desired company, broaden your search by using hashags such as #JobPosting or #Jobs

A recent study out of Cornell University found that people tend to wake up positive, but that emotion declines over the course of the day.
